Geneva to Riniken Cycle Tour
17th - 21st May 2004

La Dôle
Geneva Lakeside

Summary

On Saturday, 17th May, Jean, George, Wendy and Simon flew from Liverpool to Geneva with their bicycles. Kari, Kathryn and David drove to Geneva from Riniken. We met at Geneva airport. We unloaded Kari's bike and Kari, whilst David and Kathryn drove off to the house of our friends, Vreni and Reinhard, in Bernex, just outside Geneva.

Kathryn spent the night there, and drove back to Riniken the following day, along with all the cardboard boxes in which the bikes from Liverpool had been packed. David got on his bike and headed into the centre of Geneva to meet up with Jean, Wendy, George, Simon and Kari near the Jet d'Eau.

Time was getting on, and our hotel was booked in La Cure at the top of the mountain rail from Nyon. We headed off at full speed along the lakeside cycle track to Nyon. By the time we got there, we had missed the last train going all the way to La Cure. We could only get a train as far as St Cergue. The last stretch through St Cergue and up to La Cure was rather strenuous.

And by the time that we got to the hotel, we were too late for a cooked meal. We had to settle for bread and cheese!
